A Pembrokeshire golf club has raised more than a £1,000 for an essential local charity.

The seniors’ section of Newport Links Golf Club raised the money through a combination of events and raffles including a joint golf day with the ladies section and fines for misdemeanours, including wearing a hat inside the clubhouse, throughout the year.

The seniors section is a thriving group of plyes aged over 55 who play on Mondays and Thursdays each week including friendly matches against other clubs in soth west Wales.

Each year the section’s captain selects a charity.

Mark Taylor, captain for 2024, said:

“It was an obvious choice for a combination of reasons; the RNLI was celebrating its bicentenary, and one of our members was on the fundraising committee for Pembrokeshire.

“Another of our members, this year’s captain Mark Carrington is as volunteer fundraiser for the Fishguard station.

“Many of our members know some of the amazing volunteer crew or enjoy boating and beach activities for which the RNLI provides the vital safety which can easily be taken for granted.”

The two Marks presented the cheque to RNLI fundraising chairperson and lifeboat coxswain Gemma Gill and Cuillin the dog.
