Kevin McDonald wins Stableford at Taunton & Pickeridge

Kevin McDonald with 37 points was the winner in the top division of the Stableford competition at Taunton and Pickeridge Golf Club on Saturday.

Three players returned to the clubhouse with 36 points but after count back Chris Maggs was second, Jonathan West was third while Spencer Turnbull was fourth.

There was a two way tie at the top of the second flight so once again count back came into play following which it was Michael Spencer who took the honours, just ahead of Harvey Denning after both returned with 35 points. Ian Smith claimed third place on count back from John Herrington who was fourth and Andy Turle after all three scored 34 points.

In Division Three two players scored 37 points but after count back it was Sean Bartley who was first, just in front of Martin Samuel, while Steph Childs came third with 34.

John Snell with a nett 69 was the winner of the Golf Club Medal competition last Wednesday, but only after count back put him in front of Kevin Pellow who came back in with the same score.

Two players scored 70 but following count back it was Tony Reed who was third ahead of Alan Shire.

On Tuesday the T&P Ladies took part in a Foursomes Strokeplay competition that was played in gorgeous Spring sunshine.

At the end of the round the winners were Jan Olive and Sarah Gamble.The top eight teams will now go forward to a knockout competition that runs over the summer months.

T&P Seniors prepared for the new season with a very enjoyable and successful golf tour to Portugal during which they played four different courses.

One of these included Ombria a new purpose-designed course that opened in 2024 and has already submitted a bid to host the next Ryder Cup.

Senior Men's Pairs Betterball Stableford - Friday, May 9

Juniors' Open - Sunday, June 15 - 18-hole Individual Medal and 9-hole Individual Stableford available

Mixed Team Stableford - Sunday, June 29 - betterball men's score added to the betterball ladies' score

Ladies' Team Open - Tuesday, July 22 – best 2 scores from 4 to count

All entry fees include a one-course meal after golf.  Full details and entry requirements can be found on the Club's website
