Table tennis title race heats up after Ryde Rankers win

The gap at the top of the league table has been reduced to seven points.

Ryde Rankers had a successful week, securing ten points with a 10-0 victory against Newport Vics B and a 6-4 win over Ryde B.

Ryde C, who are currently top of the table, also played Ryde B and won 6-4.

This means there are now only seven points between Ryde C in first place and Ryde Rankers in second.

In division two, Ryde Rascals won 7-3 against Ryde Rockets.

Newport Vics C defeated a player-short Ryde Quintet 8-2.

In division three, Shorwell Saints, who are second to bottom of the table, drew against season favourites St. Lawrence Lizards.

Wroxall Warriors and Ryde Retailers are now the two closest contenders for the title.

Wroxall Warriors won 8-2 against Ryde Rustics, while Ryde Retailers had a tough match against Ryde Frogs which they won 6-4.

The 2025 Handicapped Doubles Tournament saw a strong performance from 15-year-old Jye Lock and top Island player Alex Rorke, who won the tournament.

They beat runners-up Andy Hookey and Jo Hurt.
